Bank of England to Update Birmingham Forward Members

As the recession continues to impact on business, Birmingham Forward is continuing with their aim to provide a wide range of commentary and analysis from across the economic spectrum.

As a result the organisation’s next speaker lunch taking place at the Bank Restaurant on Thursday, August 20th, will focus on the state of the economy from the perspective of the Bank of England. The guest speaker will be Rob Elder, Manager of the Conjunctural Assessment and Projections Division and one of the Bank’s key economists.

Rob is a regular advisor to the Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee. One of his main roles is to lead the team that analyses short term trends in UK demand and output.

In his speech, Mr. Elder will outline the Bank of England’s view of the economy and the outlook for the future.

Rob Elder grew up in Sutton Coldfield and attended the Josiah Mason Sixth Form College before studying at Manchester University. He took his Masters at the University of Warwick.

Rob has worked as an economist for fifteen years, first at HM Treasury before a spell with BT then moving to the Bank of England in 1998.

Commenting on the forthcoming event Sue Lewis, Chairman of Birmingham Forward said;
“We are delighted to be welcoming one of the Bank of England’s leading economists back to his home patch in Birmingham. Rob is close to the Bank’s decisions as an advisor to the Monetary Policy Committee and will be able to provide an incisive view of how the Bank predicts the economy will perform in the short to mid term. This will be a very interesting and thought provoking speech.”

Tickets are available at £25.00+vat (£28.75 incl) per person.
