Birmingham Future eBulletin

Welcome from the Chair

Darren WalkerWelcome to October's Birmingham Future e-bulletin.

Its been another busy month for Birmingham Future.  On 13 October Birmingham Future ran two events that were both wonderfully well attended.

At 11 Brindleyplace we hosted our Big City Plan event for our members and members of Birmingham Forward.  Over 70 people gathered to hear Waheed Nazir, Director of Regeneration for Birmingham City Council, talk about the Council's plans for Birmingham's future.  It was certainly a thought provoking evening and has encouraged debate from across the city.  The plan is in the consultation stage and we are keen to hear the thoughts of our members before Birmingham Future submits our response.  Please visit the website to find out how to make your opinion heard.

We also held our annual Graduate Welcome Event at Birmingham's Town Hall.  This event attracted 200 of the city's graduate talent that had just embarked on their career in Birmingham's business and professional services.  The assembled throng heard from TRAD committee chair Jason Norris, inspiring leader Bernard Shepherd and new celebrity chef, Lasan's Iktar Islam before Sarah Gee got the whole crowd networking with her six degrees of separation game - it's good to know that our new graduates can network to Barack Obama in two people! Certainly an influential bunch.

This month we have three exciting events to tell you about.  Firstly, our ever popular social calendar welcomes the Halloween night at the Vaults, we also have an excellent personal skills development workshop to help you with your networking skills.  Finally there is speed networking with a difference.  We are looking for 40 Future members to come along and network with 40 of the city's young business owners to help build our networks with the city's entrepreneurs running business in start-up through to more mature stages and make sure that they know the quality professional advisors in Birmingham.

I look forward to seeing you all over the coming month at these great events.

Forthcoming Events

Halloween Social: Thursday 28th October - 18:00 - 21:00: The Vaults, Newhall Place, Newhall Hill, B1 3JH.

This is a fantastic opportunity to use your networking skills in a relaxed environment. There will be some ghoulish games during the earlier part of the evening to aid networking, with finger food and a drink included in the ticket price.

Personal Skills Development: Effective Networking: Thursday 4th November - 18:00 - 21:00: Harvey Ingram LLP, 8th Floor, Edmund House, 12-22 Newhall Street, B3 3EW.

For those of us who have not yet mastered the art of working a room and networking with strangers, this Personal Skills Development workshop is a must. Nick Davies will be teaching us a number of techniques to improve networking skills, and to deal with confidence issues.

Speed Networking: Thursday 25th November - 18:00 - 21:00: Bluu, Islington Gates, Fleet Street, Summer Row, B3 1JH.

This is a Speed Networking event with a difference! Instead of the usual networking with our fellow members, this event is being held in conjunction with the IoD. This means that you will have access to real business leaders! Don't miss this rare opportunity to speak directly with potential new clients in the stylish Bluu bar on Summer Row.
