Islamic Finance- from Birmingham to Bahrain and back!

Birmingham’s reputation as a centre of excellence for professional services is becoming increasingly important to the city’s economic prosperity and the fact it has now become a major centre for Islamic Finance is of significant benefit.

For Birmingham firms to ensure they can engage and prosper in rising Muslim markets at home, in India, Pakistan and the Gulf, it is vital that the professional sector understand how Islamic Finance works.

Birmingham Forward is holding an event, sponsored by Wragge & Co LLP, to explore Islamic Finance; what it is, the legal aspects and importantly the opportunities it provides Birmingham firms.

It takes place on Tuesday, 7th July at 8.00am in the offices of Wragge & Co at 55, Colmore Row.

The panel will consist of experts who will look at individual aspects of Islamic Finance. The panel will be made up of Dawood Ahmedji from Deloitte, Sultan Choudhury of the Islamic Bank of Britain, Kazi Rahman of Wragge & Co and Mike Loftus of Locate in Birmingham.

This breakfast seminar will also provide delegates with a first opportunity to hear how they can get involved with the UKTI / Birmingham Forward delegation that will visit Bahrain in December.

Commenting on the forthcoming event Sue Lewis, Chairman of Birmingham Forward said: “Birmingham Forward is committed to ensuring that our members have the best opportunity to benefit from the potential of the global marketplace. An important stage in the process is to be informed and that is why we are pleased to be staging this event.”

Head of banking & finance Paula Laird of event sponsors Wragge & Co commented:

“Islamic Finance is an important area of growth for Wragge & Co and the region’s professional services community. This seminar offers a unique opportunity for Birmingham firms to explore the benefits that arise from Islamic Finance, increase our understanding and ensure we are well-placed to take advantage of the opportunities for developing our practice areas in this market.”

Tickets for the event are available from the Birmingham Forward office on 0121 632 2200 or by email: Isabel@birminghamforward.co.uk
