Birmingham Forward is delighted to announce a joint partnership event with Birmingham City Business School that sees Marc Bolland, Chief Executive, Marks and Spencer plc, discussing the importance of leadership and positive attitudes within the present economic climate. With the current cloud hovering over the UK economy seemingly being lifted, Marc will focus on the future and how best to push forward to gain the traction such successful businesses strive for, and ultimately, achieve.
Appointed in May 2010, Marc began his career at Heineken NV in The Netherlands in 1987, occupying several Marketing and Sales management roles. In 1995 he was appointed Managing Director for Heineken in Slovakia, becoming Managing Director for Heineken Export Worldwide in 1999.
Marc was then appointed to the Board of Heineken NV in 2001 with responsibility for Western Europe, US, Latin America, Northern Africa and Global Marketing. In 2005 he became Chief Operating Officer. He joined Morrisons in September 2006 as Chief Executive Officer. Marc is currently non-executive Director of Manpower Inc US, and has previously held non-executive Director roles at Hotel de I’Europe, The Netherlands (2003-2006), Quilmes, Argentina (2001-2003).
Starting life as a Penny Bazaar in Leeds, Marks & Spencer has grown over the last 128 years to become one of the UK’s most trusted retailers, with over 720 UK stores and more than 380 stores internationally. Chief Executive Marc Bolland will be discussing the importance of leadership both as Marks & Spencer grows and how it is responding to the needs of its customers in today’s challenging economic environment.
