Who we are
Created in 1990, in recognition of the growing importance of business and professional services as a sector. Birmingham Forward has grown and expanded, over the last two decades, to reflect the needs of this key sector that represents some 24% of all private sector employment in the city - over 100,000 people. Today there are two distinct parts to our organisation:
- Birmingham Forward, the corporate membership arm that represents some 200+ firms and partnerships across a diverse range of twenty one sectors; and
- Birmingham Future, the individual membership arm that represents some 500+ young, aspiring leaders across the city.
Our independence is protected by the fact that we rely entirely on membership and event revenue to run the organisation. When we do take grant, or other funding, we look to run these projects alongside our core operations so we do not become dependent on them. We rely heavily on the voluntary support of our members to ensure the smooth and effective running of Birmingham Forward. Whether it be as Board Directors, Committee Members or Sector Champions it is the commitment and passion of our members that ensures we are seen as a key voice in the Birmingham of the 21st century.
